A new rolling microgrant programme offers up to US$4,000 to developers building production-grade error correction features for Riverlane’s open-source Deltakit platform.
On 28 July 2026, quantum error correction (QEC) technology firm Riverlane and the Unitary Foundation, a non-profit organisation supporting open-source quantum software, announced the launch of the Deltakit Community Fund. Designed as a rolling, quarterly microgrant and developer support programme, the initiative aims to assist external software contributors building production-grade features for Deltakit, Riverlane’s open-source QEC software development kit originally launched in September 2025 for code construction, noise simulation, transpilation, and error decoding across hardware architectures.
Under the scheme, accepted projects will receive microgrants ranging between US$2,000 and US$4,000 alongside technical mentorship from both Riverlane and Unitary Foundation engineers, with funded project footprints typically spanning one to two quarters (three to six months). Even if a project is not selected for financial grant funding, applicants may still receive non-financial support and targeted mentorship if their proposal is deemed sufficiently compelling.
Initial targeted contributions focus on foundational infrastructure, including error budgeting bounds, threshold computation tools, and ZX graph benchmark libraries. The initiative builds on the success of unitaryHACK 2026 in June 2026, during which over 1,000 developers closed 165 open-source bounties and earned nearly US$18,000, highlighting substantial global interest in quantum infrastructure.
The programme leverages the Unitary Foundation’s existing merit and microgrant frameworks to process applications globally on a rolling monthly basis. Riverlane provides direct technical oversight by defining project criteria and evaluating milestone completions before merging features into the primary Deltakit repository, with the initial advisory review cycle commencing the week of 17 August 2026.
