Broadcom has joined Nvidia’s Open Secure AI Alliance, reinforcing its commitment to open source while helping build a community-driven AI security ecosystem that supports both open-source and open-weight models.
Broadcom has joined Nvidia’s Open Secure AI Alliance, with its Infrastructure Software Group leading the company’s participation in the alliance’s open-source mission to secure enterprise AI systems. The alliance has now grown from nearly 40 founding members to 74 organisations, including Cisco, Microsoft, Nokia, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Nutanix, Akamai and Palo Alto Networks.
Reaffirming its open-source credentials, Broadcom said it has been among the top contributors to Kubernetes over the past decade, with engineering teams behind projects including Harbor, Antrea, Velero and Contour. It also serves as the steward and primary maintainer of widely used open-source projects such as Spring Framework, Spring AI and RabbitMQ.
The alliance aims to build an open AI security stack while reducing dependence on closed, centrally controlled AI models. Broadcom said its experience as an original member of Anthropic’s Project Glasswing has helped prepare it to contribute security expertise to the initiative.
“Linus’s Law states that ‘given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow.’ In cybersecurity, trust must be earned through verification, and open source models and harnesses provide exactly that: global visibility and auditability, community-based testing, and distributed innovation. That is the foundation of why open models matter for security, and why Broadcom supports them,” said Chris Wolf, Global Head of AI and Advanced Services for VMware at Broadcom.
Broadcom added that while enterprise adoption is currently centred on open-weight AI models for private deployments, data sovereignty and lower costs, it continues to support commercial, open-source and open-weight AI models based on customer needs. The alliance itself was launched following the Hugging Face security incident to promote open AI systems for cyber defence.
