Upgraded with Intel’s next-generation “Panther Lake” chips, System76’s lightweight Lemur Pro laptop returns with Coreboot-based open firmware, a brand-new 16-inch display option, and a multi-day battery life.
System76 launched its ultraportable Lemur Pro Linux laptop, introducing Intel’s next-generation Core Ultra Series 3 “Panther Lake” mobile processors and an exceptional 73Wh battery. Delivering up to 18 hours of continuous operation—the longest runtime ever offered by the company—the new architecture grants up to a 50% multi-core performance boost and double the graphics speed of the previous generation.
For the first time since its 2020 debut, the device comes in two 16:10 matte display sizes: a 14-inch FHD+ model weighing just 0.998 kg, and a 16-inch QHD+ model at 1.34 kg. Configuration options range from the base Intel Core Ultra 5 325 to the high-end Ultra X7 358H with Intel Arc B390 graphics. Natively equipped with 32GB of ultra-fast LPDDR5X RAM and up to 4TB of NVMe SSD storage, the laptop boasts premium connectivity including Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.
The device utilizes a full-stack open Linux ecosystem, which bypasses proprietary, closed-source BIOS in favour of open-source Coreboot-based firmware, allowing complete user control over power management and thermals. Out of the box, users can choose between Ubuntu or Pop!_OS featuring the newly developed COSMIC desktop environment.
“The new Lemur versions take full advantage of the Panther Lake chip’s efficiency,” said Carl Richell, Founder and CEO of System76. “They enable users to enjoy the best of both worlds: ergonomic design and extended battery life for unprecedented portability, and the very latest processor technology.”
The new Lemur Pro retails from $1,999 USD, discounted to $1,923 during the holiday launch window, with the flagship Ultra X7 edition starting at $2,298 USD.
