Digital India BHASHINI Division and GeM have partnered to bring AI-powered multilingual capabilities to government procurement, enabling buyers, sellers, MSMEs, startups, and entrepreneurs to access services in 22 Indian languages and beyond.

The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen multilingual digital capabilities across India’s public procurement ecosystem.

The partnership aims to eliminate language barriers in government procurement by integrating AI-powered language technologies into the GeM platform, allowing users to access procurement services in their preferred languages.

Launched under the “BHASHINI for Seva/Sanchalan – A BHASHINI Sahayogi Program”, the initiative is designed to improve accessibility and participation in public procurement for buyers, sellers, MSMEs, startups, and entrepreneurs across the country.

The collaboration will leverage BHASHINI, India’s National Language Digital Public Infrastructure, extending its capabilities into procurement workflows through AI-powered language services. The technology stack will enable multilingual interaction, voice-first experiences, and generative AI-enabled services to simplify engagement with government procurement systems.

The platform will support seamless communication across 22 officially recognised Indian languages, along with additional regional languages, helping broaden access to procurement opportunities for businesses operating in diverse linguistic regions.

Under the agreement, GeM and BHASHINI will jointly develop multilingual digital resources through initiatives including BHASHINI Udyat, Mitra, Appmitra, Sahyogi, and Pravakta.

The move represents a government-to-government digital collaboration that expands language accessibility in public procurement while advancing the use of AI-driven Digital Public Infrastructure to support wider economic participation and inclusion.
